My husband and I are thinking of buying an older home and renovating it. A lot of people are coming into the area (about two blocks away) and renovating those houses. The house we want to buy is not directly in this area. How do we find out if people are planning on spreading out to where our house is and renovating out that way?

On the property we are purchasing we had to bid above the asking price. We first bid at 95% and the bank did not respond to our offer. Meaning that there were higher bids. So our realtor had us submit another bid which we did at a price $5,000 higher than the asking price. We also submitted with the bid a loan pre-approval and a letter stating the reason for our purchase.

Once an offer has been verbally accepted can the seller change their mind and accept a higher offer

Two questions here.
1) Depends on the seller and if they go through an agent. You can always submit a lower offer.

2) If an offer is verbally accepted, it means nothing. Paper, paper, paper.. That's all that counts. If they get a higher offer the day you are supposed to sign papers, they can then reject your offer and accept the higher one. I recommend getting some papers signed.
