There's this house which I'm looking to buy. The location is great and there's a huge acreage too. I'm just wondering what are the risks associated with buying a house that is unfinished?

I think the biggest thing is that you'll probably have to invest a significant amount of money into finishing the place. However, because you can finish it yourself you can choose the flooring, paint, fixtures and all the other accents that you like best.

The most obvious risk I see is that you won't have a place to live till the house is done.

At least if the finishing work is done while you are in possession of the house you can make sure that the work is done well. This is will benefit you whether you are planning to live in the house for many years or you are looking to sell and ensure buyers of the quality of the house.
