We recently sold our house to a couple who put $10,000 good faith money down. After the inspection, they decided they didn't want to buy the house because the pipes are plastic and not copper. Is this a legitimate reason for cancelling escrow?

Yes unless your contract waived inspections. Also, if you executed an "AS IS" contract with the Buyer and the alloted time period passed without notice, you can go after the escrow. From the sound of your question, either you didn't use a Realtor for the transaction or you simply do not believe your Realtor. Read your contract and the answers should be clear. Good Luck!

Yes. PVC piping is the new questionable toxic substance. Since the plumbing is not readily observable and an inspection item, if PVC shows up on the inspection, you cancel the contract if you care. Another issue is PVC siding (pvc the new lead paint issue). However check with your local laws and a licensed attorney in your state
